20/03/2009 - CAPTAINCY MERRY-GO-ROUND!

Shenley Church End CC are proud to announce their new club captains for the forthcoming 2009 season, with new posts being taken up for Saturday's, Sunday's and Midweek.

The switches complete a very rare "blanket change" in captaincy for SCECC, where for the first time since between the 1991 and 1992 season, every post sees a new person picking up the baton.

SATURDAY CAPTAINS
Stuart Hardwick relinquished his role as Saturday captain despite leading the club to promotion into Division Two in 2008, also leading the club 3rd place in Division Three during 2007. This left vice captain Richard Fletcher to step into the role unopposed.

The vacant vice captain role was contested between two players, Anton DeBeer eventually winning the casting vote from those present at the AGM, to aid Fletch and the Saturday boys into unchartered territory.

SUNDAY CAPTAINS
Taking over from Simon Sidwell - who decided against continuing for 2009 - is Sunday ever-present Anthony Brace. In putting his name forward for the vacant role, he was unanimously selected and supported by the committee in his first ever season as a captain.

Because of the club's leap into League cricket for Sunday's, club stalwart Andy Peacock was also voted in to provide the vice captaincy support, as Jay Fletcher confirmed he would step down. A combination of old head and young shoulders is felt the best way forward in this transitional season.

MIDWEEK CAPTAINS
Grahame Wild's time as the midweek skipper came to an end, and the new role went to a joint collaboration of Dave Morley and Colin Wayman. Morley is to handle the off-field team affairs and Wayman is using his vast experience to run the side solely on the field.
