15/01/2015 - 2015 FCCL FIXTURES ANNOUNCED
SCECC have received their 2015 Fixtures for their return to Division 3 of the Four Counties Cricket League, opening up with a home fixture against Pitstone & Ivinghoe at Manor Fields on Saturday 25th April.

Following a home weekend, henley make the short trip to Open University on 2nd May, before hosting their 2014 promotion counterparts Harlington on 9th May. Printers (A) and Luton Carribean (H) form the last 2 fixtures of 2015 (ending on 29th August) where home and away games are more evenly spread than previous seasons.

30/08/2014 - SHENLEY FINISH SECOND AFTER OLNEY DRAW
Despite eyeing up the possibility of gaining promotion as champions, Shenley ended up as runners-up in Division 4 behind Harlington after only managing a winning draw to a dogged Olney Town 2nds.

Harlington crushing victory over Drayton Parslow made things completely academic, but the club enjoyed a brilliant end to the season with a closely fought game, and a few beers afterwards to celebrating "going up"! Thanks to everyone for their support over the 2014 season!

23/08/2014 - SCECC PROMOTED TO DIVISION 3 - CHAMPIONSHIP PUSH?
Shenley's 7 wicket victory over New City 2nd's in Saturday's penultimate game of the 2014 season marked a great day for the club, as they were promoted back to Division 3 of the Morrant Four Counties Cricket League at the first attempt.

Their 3rd big win on the trot, coming after losing their only match of the campaign to league leaders Harlington at the end of July, took them to an unassailable 32 point lead over Drayton Parslow, meaning both Shenley and Harlington gain a spot in Division 3 in 2015.

Both promoted teams, separated by just 9 points, go into the final game battling for to be crowned champions with very different games to face. Shenley host Olney Town 2nd's, who are now safe from the drop into Division 5, however the pressure is on Harlington, who must travel to 3rd place Drayton, eager to get as many points from their season's exploits and prove without the amount of postponed matches, they would've been title contenders.

At the bottom, Wilden and Milton Bryan face each other in a huge relegation battle, to decide which one of them joins Stewkley Vicarage in Division 5.

28/01/2014 - SHENLEY NETS TO START IN FEBRUARY
With the season fast approaching, it will be very soon upon us, therefore it must be time for the 2014 SCECC nets to start!

Once again they are booked in at Radcliffe School with the first nets beginning on Wednesday 5th February and continue every Wednesday and Sunday until the 9th April. 8:00-9:00pm on Wednesdays and 2:00-3:00pm on Sundays.

10/09/2013 - AUGUST: SHENLEY RELEGATED AFTER TRING BATTLE
Shenley's fears came to reality as they were relegated to Division Four of the FCCL following a closely fought battle at Tring Park on the final day, in the winner takes all decider. For such an important match, both sides played in cracking spirits and both innings took on similar turns before Tring edged them out to stay in Div 3.

Bowling first, Shenley took the first five wickets for less than 50 runs putting them in charge. But despite strong bowling and resolute batting (and a rare Sidwell v. Sidwell bat/bowl duel) Tring eeked out the innings past the 100 mark. It took catches and stumpings by Rob Hatcher and slower bowling by Shiv Meeda to break the partnership and quell the innings to 164 all out, an attainable target.

However, SCECC's batting faltered early - 5 wickets fell by the 30's and it took great innings by Nick Rogers and Richard Fletcher to push past 100. Overs were running out and a quick burst by Simon Sidwell kept the run rate achievable. More wickets fell and with 2 overs to go, 20 runs shy, Shenley found themselves defeated and down. The relegation victims cannot be too downhearted - they've shown a massive improvement to take into next season at a level where a challenge to the leaders could be posed!

Things started fantastically with a 150 run (30 point) win over Stewkley, but back to back defeat at Bromham and home to Pitstone put the trouble on Shenley's shoulders with two games to spare. They needed points desperately and the next game, another postponed game v. Luton Caribbean, only yielded 10. So, a final game needed a win to stay up. Good luck to Tring and others in Division 3 next season!

01/08/2013 - JULY: BIG CONTRAST IN FORTUNES
Three home games in the month meant the Saturday side could haul themselves away from being relegation candidates by providing much needed points - and a month's haul of 52 points from 4 games didn't harm their chances, including a brilliant 30 point win over Open University.

Despite reaching an average of 160-8 off their 44 overs, a late charge by Jay Fletcher pushing the runs to a respectable level, it looked like early on OU would reach the target with ease. But the middle order couldn't maintain, and thanks to Nick Rogers' spell of 4-20, a spectacular diving catch by Simon Sidwell, economical bowling and top standards in the field, Shenley grabbed the final 2 wickets with 14 runs to spare! 30 points!

The huge contrast came with successive weeks of failing to reach the minimum bonus point level. The difficult bouncy pitch at Caddington didn't help, the host posting 218-8 before bowling SCECC out for a paltry 77 - openers Sangara and Blaney doing the damage. North Crawley bashed 244-6 the week after and made Shenley pay by skittling them for 67 all out, Gillian gained 5-9.

The final game against Eggington, although eventually abandoned at 7:30pm, saw a brilliant game of cricket. Richard Fletcher (4-43) and Simon Sidwell (4-54) contributed the wickets as the visitors claimed 210-8. At drinks for Shenley's innings, they had already posted 100 and the game was poised evenly. However 3 wickets fell quickly, Shenley's resolve weakened and within 9 overs the impending storms washed the match out as Eggington looked to close it out. A bit of luck the home side deserved.

05/05/2013 - RAIN HITS SCECC INNINGS IN O.U. DEFEAT
Shenley Church End CC - 183-8 (40 ovs) lost to
Open University CC - 184-6 (34.5 ovs) by 4 wickets

Shenley had no league game scheduled today so arranged a friendly fixture against Westcroft at Manor Fields. Shenley won the toss and elected to bat on a fairly sunny and mild day.

Tight bowling from Westcroft reduced Shenley to 41 for 3 after 13 overs. Then Lal Patel and Andy Peacock added 52 for the 4th wicket. Lal eventually made 23 with Andy passing 50 before being out for 56. In the spirit of the friendly fixture, Westcroft allowed 2 Shenley players to bat again as they started with only 9 players and Shenley finished with 183 for 8 from their 40 overs. The pick of the bowlers was Omer with 2 for 8 from 5 overs.

Shiv Meeda and Andrew Soper opened the bowling for Shenley and soon reduced Westcroft to 41 for 5 inside 10 overs. Andrew finishing with figures of 4 for 36 from 10 overs. Westcroft staged a recovery though, with Raj and Sohail adding 89 for the 6th Westcroft wicket.

Westcroft eventually reached their target in the 35th over with no further loss of wickets although there were some generous "retired hurt" decisions to allow more of the team to bat. The game was played in a very sportsmanlike manner and credit must go to both teams for this, while Shenley will once again gain confidence from another competitive performance.

04/05/2013 - RAIN HITS SCECC INNINGS IN O.U. DEFEAT
Shenley Church End CC - 193-8 lost to
Open University CC - 194-5 (37.4 ovs) by 5 wickets

Shenley's first league game of the 2013 Saturday season saw them go down to an Open University side at the OU Campus. OU won the toss and elected to field, and it was Shenley who got off to a slow start and after 14 overs had reached 45 for 4 including two rain delays.

The drying pitch began to increasingly aid the visitors, and Stuart Hardwick then joined Simon Sidwell at the crease and together they added 85 runs for the 5th wicket in just 14 overs. Hardwick was then out for a well made 40 but Sidwell stayed in and helped the Shenley tail wag to reach 193 for 8 from their 44 overs. Sidwell finished with an excellent 69.

The OU began their innings at a lively pace scoring at 6 runs per over but were pegged back by Jay Fletcher taking two quick wickets leaving them 48 for 2. However Gray and Gill for the OU added over 80 runs for the third wicket before Sidwell bowled Gill for 41. Gray continued his innings reaching 90 before he was trapped LBW by Fletcher for his third wicket. By that time however, the OU needed less than 20 runs to win at less than 2 runs per over and, despite another wicket taken by Derek Rose, the OU reached their target with more than 6 overs to spare.

It was the kind of pitch that needed a score of 230 to be a winning innings, however the early rain quelled Shenley's progress. Despite a slightly weaker batting side, they will be buoyed by almost acheiving maximum batting points and fielding positively.

01/05/2013 - WICKEN PROVE TOO STRONG FOR SHENLEY
Shenley Church End CC - 210-4 lost to
Wicken CC - 211-4 by 6 wickets

A new season got underway in freezing cold, blustery conditions. Shenley won the toss and elected to bat first on a pitch that was dry, low and slow.

The innings opened with Stuart Burke and Dave 'Babylon' Grey going in first and proceeding to put on 88 for the opening stand by the 16th over. However, just as Boris had passed 50 he had and a fine way to get the season going. Babylon was joined by Rob Hatcher who proceeded to tuck into a typical boundary fest innings again passing 50 before getting out LBW.

Babylon also passed 50 making it three fifties in the top order and there were late contributions from Simon Pugh with 24 and Shiv 22 not out at the end as well.

Shenley's bowling opened up with Shiv Meeda (2-46) and Derek Rose. Blustery conditions was making bowling against the wind a lost cause and Paul Rose was the one that stepped up and did the dirty work while Derek put in a fine spell picking up 2-43. Dave Ratcliffe was called into action with his left arm seam and did a steady job at the other end. However, Shenley kept leaking runs and a steady and well judged chase by Wicken ended hopes of a victory in the last over of the match.

Overall, a strong start to the season and a result that could have gone either way. Its not often we were are as strong a batting unit as we showed on Sunday and its very promising to see everyone contributing. The bowling and fielding performance was full of heart and commitment and its a strong platform to build on. Lets look forward to another good showing in the next game.

25/04/2013 - 2013 SEASON STARTS WITH LEAGUE FIXTURES
Shenley Church End CC brush the dust off their spikes and oil up their bats in preparation for this weekend's opening matches, as the 2013 Season starts on what promises to be a very cold weekend!

Richard Fletcher's squad limber up for another season in Division Three of the Four Counties Cricket League, with their first Saturday fixture away at Eggington Foresters 2nd XI. It's an intriguing few months ahead for the side, who look to better their mid table league position from a weather-hit 2012. Next up in early May are matches against Open University (A) and Caddington (H).

The Sunday side also start their fixture list in the MK Sunday League Division 3 under the guise of new captain Shiv Meeda, ably assisted by Dave Pugh. Despite a setback last weekend when the friendly against Great Horwood was postponed due to pitch issues, they travel to Wicken hoping for a more consistent season. Two home games then follow, a friendly versus Westcroft and then to host Aylesbury Town CC in League action.

10/02/2013 - SCCEC TO BENEFIT FROM BRFC IMPROVEMENTS
The news of Olympic Legacy Funding given to Bletchley Rugby Club to improve its facilities is to have a direct benefit to SCECC - as the bottom changing rooms at Manor Fields are to be completely revamped in Spring 2013.

BRFC have secured a £50K grant from Sport England's Inspired Facilities fund to start work on rebuilding the old changing area by the bottom pitch which "will include 4 changing rooms, new shower and W/C facilities, a small kitchen area and a gym / treatment room".

With the Rugby's Club natural partnership with Bletchley Town CC, where SCECC are tenants, the work will therefore benefit a number of teams, as BTCC's 3rd team, Shenley, midweek sides and a number of senior/junior rugby sides are set to make use of the improved building. Of course SCECC are looking forward to using the new facilities in the summer!

For more on this, please visit the BRFC site for the full story.

29/09/2012 - MIXED FINISH FOR SHENLEY CRICKET IN 2012
SCECC strode into the final 5 games of the season hoping to consolidate their lower-mid table position by actually completing some games, however August got off to a typical bad start with the Stoke Hammond game being postponed, meaning their did not play the eventual champions in 2012.

The other four games in the month provided very mixed results, though the 55 points gained were enough to pull themselves into a satisfactory mid-table finish in Division 3. Wilden visited the Manor for the first ever time and found the going tough. Rob Hatcher's 51 not out gave Shenley a late push to record 175, and Wilden could not chase flatter to 129-8 and gifting SCECC an easy winning draw.

An extremely tough game against fancied Willen followed. Missing 4 key players, Shenley dug in despite only reaching 100 with 10 overs left, Simon Sidwell performed a late charge and top scored with 35, to give Willen a target of 160. A cracking early start always saw the host ahead of the game, and with late jittery wickets from Nick Rogers and youngster Nikial Patel keeping bonus point standards up on their way to a 4 wicket defeat, Shenley could be proud of their spirit.

New Bradwell's season went from bad to worse with a 6 wicket defeat by Shenley, the match over by 4:30pm as NB were bowled out for 49 (Richard Fletcher 4-16 and Nick Rogers 3-1!), leaving Shenley a handsome 70 overs to reach 50, of course the target dealt with ease.

Finally, the first day in September saw a visit to the delightful ground at North Crawley. The home side stuttered early but recovered in the middle order to post 196 all out. With the sun lowering behind one end and accurate bowling, SCECC struggled with momentum, and with 9 balls remaining lost the final wicket to lose by 69 runs. From this result, Shenley lost agonisingly out on 5th place, but with the season decimated by rain, 6th place is a reasonable result from the 9 games actually competed in.

The Sunday side didn't fair too well in this summer month, only completing one game due to postponements. That game proved to be a superb affair with Great Brickhill 3rds. A total of 451 runs were scored, with each side scoring over 200, but the visiting Brickhill side coming out of top. Racing to 245-4 from their 40 overs, Shenley found the chase too hard but never gave up hope, nipping in a score over 200 for the first time in 2012 to lose by 39 runs.

A huge 125 run defeat to Woughton finished off the league season, rooting Shenley firm to the bottom of the MKSL ladder. But pride was restored in the next two friendly matches, beating Great Horwood by 6 wickets and winning a cracking match against Printers by just 3 runs. Captain Rob Hatcher can be happy with his troops response, but remains to be seen if he'll carry on as skipper next term.

03/08/2012 - SATURDAY'S BRIGHTEN UP, SUNDAY'S FALTER
Two fantastic victories in July have positively gone some way to securing Shenley's Division 3 status in the FCCL, and puts a better spin on a somewhat disrupted 2012 season, but it wasn't all plain sailing.

SCECC's first ever visit to Bromham on 7th July started on a superb note, with Shenley grinding their way to 185-9 on a very slow pitch. Interstingly it was the only game to be played in the entire FCCL programme. And with the Shenley opening pair of Jay and Richard Fletcher ripping through the order, the hosts succumbed to 80 all out, giving Shenley a much warranted 30 point win.

With Caddington postponed, Shenley visited Stewkley and were promptly embarrassed. Despite Stewkley posting a lowly 114-8 off their 44 overs, bowler Chris Drakes scythed through Shenley's shellshocked batting line-up with 8-22. So instead of a maximum point win like 2 weeks ago, they were reeling a rather forgettable 30 all out.

Lastly a fantastic victory over Eggington Foresters capped off a more positive month. Eggington smahsed their way to 173 all out off 34.2 overs, meaning Shenley were required to pick off the total in 53 overs. A measured run chase saw them calmly nail down the socre with less than 2 overs to spare, and a few minutes past 8pm the victory - and points - were theirs.

Sunday's were a different story. Only 2 league games were possible over the month, and both ended in a loss. Westcroft inflicted a 51 run defeat, as Shenley failed to get anywhere near the 154 set by the home side, instead stumbling to 103. A similar defeat to North Bucks Ambulance at the end of the month left Shenley languishing down the foot of the MKSL Division 3.

05/07/2012 - JUNE FAIRS EVEN WORSE FOR WEATHER
Shenley's awful season continued in June, where the Saturday side did not complete a full game due to the horrendous conditions on Manor Fields, which fell foul to the wet weather again. Games against Wilden, Willen and New Bradwell were all postponed due to poor conditions on the Saturday morning.

But they did almost manage to complete their fixture versus North Crawley 2nds. With the visitors chasing a below par 167, 2 rain stops meant the pitch became too wet to finish, NC just 31 runs away with 11 overs remaining. It left Shenley's main side when they would ever complete a full game!

Sunday's did not look too pretty either. Despite a great match on tour versus Rudgwick, postponments against another tour side and Newport Pagnell meant just two other League games were played. First up, Aylesbury visited the Manor and inflicted an 89 run defeat. Shenley, chasing 213, could only stutter to 124-6 off their 40 overs.

Secondly, a brilliant match at Great Brickhil saw Shenley reach 129 off their 40 overs, however former player Kieran Burke stepped up in a big partnership to haul Brickhill to victory with a few ball remainings and only 2 wicket lefts in hand.

11/06/2012 - RAIN CONTINUES TO HAMPER SEASON
The prolonged rain has continued to play havoc with Shenley's season on both Saturday's and Sundays, and the club are in danger of losing their 6th Saturday FCCL Division 3 game this weekend in 7 attempts, due to Manor Fields once again suffering from flooding.

An unprecedented start to the campaign has seen a main cause of reasoning for the lack of matches, the heavy rainfall at specific times has made it impossible for a pitch to be prepared, and in our case, even getting out to the square. The first 7 weekends have seen just 4 games played, and members are still chomping at the bit to see some cricket!

SCECC have managed just one Saturday match so far away at Eggington Forresters. The hosts posted 190-9 off their 44 overs, but despite a decent start, the away side couldn't get going past 100 and lost vital wickets on a slowish pitch, all out for 133 with a few overs left.

The Sunday siude has seen some success, overcoming Wolverton Town 3rds by 6 wickets. Chasing a decent total of 172, and through a great ending partnership Paul Rose and Andy Peacock they led home the side with brilliant shots. However last weekend's MKSL fixture saw Aylesbury Town victorious, posting 213 all out in their 40 overs, Shenley were unable to chase and finished on 124-6, some 89 runs behind.

05/06/2012 - CLUB ENJOYS SUCCESSFUL BRIGHTON TOUR
On Jubilee Weekend, SCECC embarked on their annual Tour, this time taking in the sights of Brighton! The weekend was organsied by Richard Fletcher and driven down to our destination by Dave Morley and his kind lending of a minibus, included a game at Rudgwick CC on Saturday - which unfortunately saw a 6 wicket defeat, before enjoying the Brighton nightlife to the maximum.

The usual bad weather curtailed a local game in Brighton, and was instead replaced by lunch and bowling on Brighton Marina, a tour of Brighton pier, where the Tour virgins Derek Rose and Tim Wyndham ducked out of a scary to take to the log flume (hardcore!, before an Indian and ales back in Rottingdean, our residence for the weekend, finished off a decent day!

18 holes at the local Par 3, with the famous Roedean school in the background, rounded off the Tour, and with a return highly likely, we'd like to thanks Rudgwick CC for their hospitality and hope to return next year for more laughs and cricket!

14/05/2012 - SHENLEY SUFFER OPENING 3 WEEK WASH-OUT!
Manor Fields in early May, extensive flooding cover the outfield and square Shenley Church End CC are suffering from a huge cricket withdrawl after the first 6 matches of the season were wash-out, including 5 games at home, thanks to a untypically wet April and early May that saw extensive flooding of the Manor Fields pitch.

Heavy rainfall saw the bottom pitch become completely saturated for the first time in 5 years. FCCL games against Stoke Hammond and Bromham were both postponed, and despite efforts to find alternative pitches, Sunday matches v. Abington, Willen and Westcroft 3rds were all cancelled. Even the away match against Caddington fell foul due to standing water.

With Stewkley due at the Manor this weekend and in obvious doubt, it's the last home fixture until June 10th, which will give time for pitch recovery.

25/04/2012 - CRICKETFORCE SUCCESS BY OUR LANDLORDS
Bletchley Town CC recently completed a successful "Cricket Force" day, which amongst other things helped re-generate the changing rooms adjacent the bottom pitch of Manor Fields, regularly used through the season by us as a club. Shenley Church End CC pass on their thanks to Bletchley for a fantastic freshen-up to the pavilion!

20/04/2012 - NEW SEASON IS ALMOST UPON SCECC
Shenley Church End begin their campaign in the Morrant Four Counties Cricket League in a new division, lining up in Division 3 following relegation last season. The Saturday side, once again led by Richard Fletcher, face Stoke Hammond CC down at Manor Fields on 28th April (1:30 start) whilst Rob Hatcher's Sunday team kick-off the next day with a friendly versus Abington CC, also down at the Manor.

01/03/2012 - ON THE LOOKOUT FOR NEW PLAYERS!
Shenley Church End CC are currently on the lookout for local players to compete in our Saturday League side and also for our Sunday side for the 2012 Season, including good standard batsmen and bowlers.

If you are interested and for more information, contact Ian Peacock, or simply come down to a Net session for a chat and loosen off the arm!

14/12/2011 - AWARDS EVENING A BIG SUCCESS
Shenley Church End CC held their annual Presentation Evening at the start of December, to mark off yet another year with the club. Although the on field season didn't bring any success, it didn't dampen the spirits of the brilliant club turnout.

Richard Fletcher gained the honour of Most Runs as well as the Best Batting Average. A deserved winner, especially as he collected the Division Two All Rounder award a month before, despite the team being relegated to Division 3. Jay Fletcher took an annual swipe of the Most Wickets trophy with 24, but was beaten to the Best Bowling Average by the ever economical chairman Ian Peacock.

3 new winners bagged the rest of the gongs. Paul Rose took the Captains trophy after his first full season, based on his superb contributions to the saturday and Sunday side, while the Best Newcomer award deservedly went to Tim Wyndham following good performances with bat, ball and in the field. Simon Pugh took the Clubmans trophy, rewarding his all round efforts on and off the field.

The successful Club Raffle was also held, thanks to members almost £300 was raised and thanks to the generosity of club members, some very worthy prizes - including an Amazon Kindle - passed hands amongst the great food, beer and wine provided by hosts The Old Red Lion in Great Brickhill.

Lastly, thanks to Judy Peacock for her unsung work pre and post matches, and also to Stuart Burke for providing the superb statistics books that have the players chatting wildly and the WAG's shaking their heads! A great night, and here's to 2012!

15/11/2011 - SCECC PRESENTATION EVENING 2011
The club's annual Presentation Evening has been duly organised, and will take place at the Old Red Lion pub in Great Brickhill, this time taking a slightly later date of Friday 2nd December 2011. All SCECC members and guests are invited, with the evening due to start at 7:00pm.

Food from their superb menu can be ordered on arrival, whilst the usual events including player presentations, the huge club raffle, Boris' stats books and of course lots of beer! Please let us know if you're attending on the Messageboard, or contact Ian Peacock/Nick Rogers.

04/09/2011 - SCECC RELEGATED TO DIVISION 3 AFTER DRAW
Shenley Church End CC - 166-7 (13 points) DREW with
Old Bradwell - 177 (14 points)

Shenley Church End CC ended the 2011 season strongly, but failed to avoid relegation to Four Counties League Division Three on the final day, as Old Bradwell scored just enough runs to stave off a valiant chase by the home side.

The writing was on the wall before the match, Shenley needing to avenge the 22 point gap, and electing to bowl meant a win was vital, and hope Aylesbury and Caddington do not pick up the required points. A decent bowling display left OB scraping for runs at the end of their innings, eventually bowled out for 177, an achievable score.

Shenely started the run chase well, Andy Peacock grinding out the overs and Richard Fletcher adding some lightning quick runs to get ahead of the game. But the loss of key wickets down the order meant the run chase slowed, sufficiently enough for the game to slip out of reach.

Shenley ended the season 12 points adrift at the foot of the table. However the club will be buoyed at the positive end to the season, to give themselves a chance of a great escape. Instead, they will line up in Division Three ready for another season of battles on the cricket field.

30/08/2011 - CRICKET ROUND-UP - AUGUST
Shenley's last five games were against the weaker sides in the division and offered them a big chance to haul themselves out of the relegation zone - a challenge they took on with good results! A month without defeated encouraged skipper Richard Fletcher, starting with a terrific draw against Milton Bryan.

Shenley showed some fighting spirit in their reply to Milton Bryan's 243-4 dec, by running the hosts all the way. SCECC fell 15 runs short of the total despite a brilliant chase lasting all 47 overs, but gaining vital points after last month's poor results.

However a superb win was to follow against Aylesbury Town. Andy Peacock's 69 helped Shenley to an average total of 157 all out, possibly not enough to defend... But the brothers of Richard Fletcher (5-41) and Jay Fletcher (4-17) bowled excellently in tandem to produce the club's best result - and finally a victory - skittling Aylesbury for 59. And even better was to happen a week after, Aston Clinton were thrown the slaughter from Shenley's attack, bowled out for 75 before Shenley wrapped up victory with just 2 wickets down! A glimmer of hope in the battle to avoid relegation.

That battle was scuppered somewhat when weather forced the abandonment of the match against Caddington. Just 15 overs were possible (and no notable stats) before more rain fell onto the already wet pitch, leaving Shenley 22 points off safety behind Caddington themselves and Aylesbury. It was all down to the result versus Old Bradwell on the final day...

An August mixed with fixture changes and bad weather saw only one game played by the Sunday squad. They fell victim to North Bucks Ambulance. Despite having NBA 9 wickets down without 100 on the board, a strong last wicket partnership eventually go them upto 149. Shenley's reply started shakily before steadying up. But in the end the pitch proved too good and were bowled out cheaply for 79.

01/08/2011 - CRICKET ROUND-UP - JULY
It was the worst possible July from the Saturday side, failing to register anything but defeats in the entire 5 game month, the saving grace being a postponment! But it was always going to be difficult to gain win over the stronger sides in Division Two.

Old Bradwell proved a bit too strong on the day early in the month. Posting 150 from their innings, and opener Homer Evans managing to break his arm fending off a beamer (but bravely carrying on!), the hosts easily rounded up victory in just 20 overs and 7 wickets to spare.

Their next opponents were Cranfield at the Manor. The visiting side posted 210 all out off 43 overs, Graham Teagle topping the figures superbly with 5-45. But despite a lack knock from Simon Sidwell, posting 51, it only served to make the score respectable and Shenley lost by 60 runs.

The game versus Aspley Guise was postponed, and the very next week a horror show against New City saw Shenley get bowled out for just 69, thanks to City's brilliant bowling attack, and the total easily gained with just 3 wickets down. High flying Eggington Foresters were the final opponents in the month, Shenley's 161-8 proved no match, losing by 6 wickets and completing a terrible month.

It left Shenley rooted to the foot of the league, only picking up 29 points in 5 games and staring relegation from Division Two full on in the face.

The Sunday side had a much better month, full of positives. Great Brickhill's huge total of 295 was always going to be a huge task (Andy Soper's 4-1, but A Meeda's 118 steered Shenley to 219-7 off their 40 overs, a loss but no disgrace. A victory at Willen proved a catalyst for better things, while the defeat against a Bletchley Town XI in the Geoff Devereux Trophy did not spoil the enjoyment of a good day.

Indeed, SCECC went on to beat Wolverton Town 2nd's, chasing down a modest total of 161. Stuart Burke's 57 was ably backed up by Simon Pugh (47) to secure the win. And even better things followed when the final day of the month saw a win over Aylesbury Town, Stuart Burke with 84 this time, and Andy Peacock with 64, rounding off an encouraging month for the Sunday team.

11/07/2011 - SUNDAY SIDE RECORD SUPERB WIN!
Willen CC - 180 LOST TO
Shenley Church End CC - 181-4 by 6 wickets

The Sunday side enjoyed their second win of the campaign with a superb chase-down in Milton Keynes Sunday League Division 3 action.

03/07/2011 - CRICKET ROUND-UP - JUNE
Despite languishing at the bottom, Shenley maintained an unbeaten run the Morrant FCCL Division 2. Twice in 2 weeks, they were forced to chase totals of over 200, but ended up losing early wickets. Reaching 174-9 v. Milton Bryan (Richard Fletcher 62, Dave Rosier 41) and only 123-5 against Aylesbury Town in the allotted overs, the points won saw the gap widen between the team outside the relegation zone.

Two league games in early June on Sunday only yielded half a game. In the Aylesbury Town game, Stuart Burke's knock of 45 proved the highlight from 171-9 before the heavens opened, whilst North Bucks Ambulance was called off without a ball bowled. Two more losses against Wayfarers and Newport Pagnell failed to dampen the spirits of the Sunday side, who were improving in confidence and team spirit.

Saturday's continued in a drab fashion, Aston Clinton finished on 87-4 before rain forced the game's cancellation, whilst next week at Caddington a poor batting display for 69ao proved no match for the hosts, picknig off the total in 14 overs. Going into July, Old Bradwell were also 7 wickets winners, Shenley's total of 150 chased down with ease. Relegation looms large for SCECC, despite half the campaign played...

31/05/2011 - CRICKET ROUND-UP - MAY
A mixed bag started off May for Shenley, and margainally to improve throughout the month. Saturday wise, defeats to Cranfield University (SCECC 123-8, chased down by the hosts with 5 down) and Aspley Guise (SCECC 184-8, total gained in 35 overs) left Shenley rooted to the foot on Div 2, meanwhile the Sunday side suffered a postponment and a heavy cup defeat to MK City (SCECC 64ao).

But a small improvement appeared when SCECC batted for 47 overs to gain a losing draw against New City, and the next day the club sought a much needed Sunday League win over Wolverton. Gaining 175-9, they restricted the hosts sufficiently to set up a grandstand finish, and took the points with a brilliant 1 run victory.

SCECC's Tour to Bournemouth followed, but due to unforseen circumstances it only yielded one game against the superb Langley Manor. Shenley decided to bat and made a stupendous 317 on a flawless batting track. Rob Hatcher grabbed his first ever ton by hitting 113no and had the pleasure of being mobbed not only by his own team-mates, but the opposition also!

Langley were by far the stronger unit, and chipped away at the massive total due to their heavy-hitting batting line-up. Managing to get the total with 2 overs to spare was absolutely no shame in what was a memorable match - the post match "Stump Run" provided most of the laughs!! SCECC TOUR 2011 - STUMP RUN

Midweek wise, the highlight of the season came early on in the month with a 4 wicket victory over MK Azad.

01/05/2011 - SHENLEY TAKE POSITIVES FROM OPENING DAY LOSS
Eggington Foresters CC 1st XI - 178 (30 points) BEAT
Shenley Church End CC - 88 (5 points) by 90 runs

Richard Fletcher's Saturday side are counting themselves unlucky after going down to a defeat against newly promoted Eggington Foresters, after bowling themselves into a great position before collapsing with the bat.

The skipper's figures of 5-18 were the highlight of Shenley's bowling innings, and actually had the home side 6 wickets down with little more than 60 on the board. However a healthy fightback saw Eggington eventually reach 178 all out. Only Shiv Meeda (18), Jay Fletcher (17) and Richard Fletcher (15) posted notable totals as the bowling attack proved too strong on an early season pitch.

01/05/2011 - SEASON OPENER ENDS IN DISAPPOINTMENT
Stoke Bruerne CC - 131-1 BEAT
Shenley Church End CC - 130 by 9 wickets

The 1st Sunday game of the 2011 Season finally arrived on a lovely sunny day however rather windy, with a half the team being new players, the skipper won the toss and selected to bat. Rob Hatcher shuffled the pack but kept the 2 main openers from last year being Simon Pugh and himself and on a very difficult wicket with it shooting through and a few snotbox sniffers!!

They managed to put 29 for the opening partnership with Hatcher falling trying to force the issue after a slow start, that brought Paul Rose to the crease and before he knew it we found ourselves 2 down with Pugh falling.

At 29-2 this soon became 40something-7 with a Shenley collapse with debutants Dinesh, Charlie, Andy all falling for a duck along with Pete Jones this brought Chicky and Will Green to the crease and they were doing well till Chicky (on 21) missed that suspect straight one on a dodgy wicket. Dave Pugh hit 4 before falling then a slight bit of controversy as Green got out for 39 with a long hop that a few thought the fielder was on the line as he caught it, this was neither here nor there.

Then Shenley came out to bowl with Green and Shiv Meeda opening the bowling only 1 wicket was to fall with Green's worst bal, a nice slow full toss that the batsmen somehow managed to chop on, and after a catch dropped and give us a sniff so did a few heads but there were enough positives and experience gained from everyone on a rather strange wicket.

Thank you to Stoke Bruerne for a nice 1st game and their hospitality.

04/12/2010 - FCCL DIVISION 2 LINE-UP ANNOUNCED FOR 2011
The Morrant Four Counties Cricket League have this week announced the divisional line-up for the 2011 campaign, which sees Shenley Church End face action in Division Two, and once again six division are in play.

Due to Cublington's departure to the Cherwell Cricket League, it meant some restructing and new teams had to be factored in. Milton Keynes CC and Olney Town CC both take their places in Division One, while Aspley Guise's relegation was confirmed to Division 2. Newport Pagnell were however handed a reprieve with the spare place being left by Cublington, and will compete in Division 1, overturning their impending relegation for the second season running.

Promoted from Division 3, Eggington Foresters make a return up a league, but as champions Cublington 2nds follow their 1sts into the Cherwell set-up, an extra place was up for grabs. A new side in Aylesbury Town joined the league with 2 teams, their 1st XI will compete in Division 2 and 2nds in Division 4. This of course meant a reprieve for Aston Clinton, who were victims of last year's tight reloegation battle.

Division Two - 2010: Aspley Guise 1st XI, Aston Clinton 1st XI, Aylesbury Town 1st XI, Caddington 1st XI, Cranfield University 1st XI, Eggington Foresters 1st XI, Milton Bryan 1st XI, New City 1st XI, Old Bradwell 1st XI, Shenley Church End.

03/09/2010 - SHENLEY ESCAPE RELEGATION AFTER ABANDONMENT
Shenley Church End have successfully staved off relegation from Division Two after their match against Olney Town was abandoned, securing 251 points to see them compete for sure in the upper echelons of the Morrant Four Counties Cricket League in 2011.

In what was an extremely tight division in 2010, where a bulk of teams could have seen relegation, Aston Clinton were eventually the big losers, and somewhat unluckily their total of 243 points spelt out their relegation. This is despite in previous seasons a relegated team’s points total is usually under the 200 point mark, and 3rd place in the league was gained by Milton Bryan on 271 points! Play was possible for the first innings however, as Olney chased promotion.

Reaching 201 for 3, Olney gained the 5 batting points they needed to be all but sure as Shenley, although fairly accurate with their bowling, could not find the required bowling to take wickets. A huge downpour during the tea break waterlogged the outfield and square. The resident umpire – who was under assessment - decided one more downpour would seal the game’s fate, this appeared 20 minutes later, giving Olney promotion and SCECC the escape clause.

02/09/2010 - JULY 2010 ROUND-UP - CERTAINLY A MIXED BAG...
With the season into full swing, Shenley continued to enjoy mixed success on the pitch. A poor bowling performance saw Old Bradwell defeat SCECC by 6 wickets, Stuart Burke providing the match report here. There was joy in the Sunday Cup as a 50 run win posted over landlords Bletchley Town gave a chance to progress, however due to other results Shenley failed to progress.

Milton Bryan once again proved too strong as SCECC travelled south-west of MK, a poor innings batting first of an uneven pitch meant the hosts took a clean advantage getting ahead of the run rate and easily finishing off the game and providing Shenley with an 8 wicket defeat – suddenly the relegation zone was in clear sight. The weekend was made worse by a 6 wicket reverse on Sunday against Newport Pagnell.

A 15 point losing draw versus Cranfield University, failing to secure the final wicket for victory, meant Shenley’s troubles were giving a prop-up for the time being during the middle of July, the next day a 27 run defeat at the hands of Milton Keynes left the Sunday team with just 1 win in their last 6 matches.

Despite fielding a weaker side due to the local Prodigy gig, Shenley’s home game vs. Stewkley couldn’t yield a victory. A huge SCECC total threw the Vicarage from a willingness to chase the win, and instead a 18 point draw had to suffice. And a big 115 run victory over North Bucks Ambulance ended the Sunday’s side month off well, especially as it was their first League win of the season!

Finally, Shenley travelled to Aston Clinton looking for some success over their rivals. However chasing down 205, Shenley collapsed to 80-7 and being a man short, the game looked over with 17 overs of the innings gone. But Nick Rogers, Simon Sidwell and Graham Teagle made a valiant effort to rescue the game, batting for 22 more overs and increasing the run total respectably.

During this time, Shenley were amazingly never out of the game, Clinton becoming increasingly frustrated at their inability to get the tail end out! Despite the late finish, with 5 overs left the home side secured the last wicket to bowl out Shenley for 167, but the vital batting points gained were to play their part later in the season...

02/07/2010 - JUNE 2010 ROUND-UP - SCECC SNAP UP POINTS
The mid-season month of June brought mixed results for the Saturday and Sunday team. Losing to League high flyers Miton Keynes by 5 wickets, the Sunday side enjoyed a 206 run win over MK City early in the month, and the side's fortunes were reversed as the month drew on.

Things got gradually better in Division Two as Shenley racked up some decent points with 3 innings of 200+. Despite not being able to overcome a resolute New City CC, gaining a maximum points draw after they couldn't chase the 229 required, a fantastic win over Caddington chasing 219 brough some cheer. Anton De Beer's 126no single handedly brough Shenley the victory.

Another successful chase was to follow the week after to finish off June when Olney visited the Manor. Shenley were professional in chasing down a decent total 210 with 5 overs to spare, helping them sit nicely towards the top end of the table.

Meanwhile two home Sunday defeats meant Shenley were dumped out of the Cup and searching for their first home victory. Stony Stratford took a 6 wicket win which meant the Cup semis were now a distant memory, whilst Wolverton Town 2nd's wrapped up a 2 wicket win the week after to make it a miserable end to the month.

14/06/2010 - SHENLEY LEND MANOR IMPROVEMENTS HAND
Staurt Burke, Anton De Beer and Ian Peacock were all hands on decks in lending some time to improve the look of the bottom pitch changing rooms area at Manor Fields during the start of the month. This area has been in need of sprucing up for a while, and with lawnmowers and gardening implements, the clean-up was a success, to match the new coat of paint of the wooden parts. Well done to those involved!

25/04/2010 - SUNDAY SIDE RESCUE PRIDE IN CATASTROPHIC COLLAPSE!
Collingtree CC - 267-7 beat SCECC - 167-9 by 100 runs
A club record 10th wicket partnership of 87* between Colin Wayman and Simon Sidwell brought SCECC back to a more respectable result after being reduced to 2-5 as Collingtree ripped through the top order in Northampton.

Despite a great start from Shenley's bowlers, with the home team on 80-4 at drinks, great batting displays saw almost 10 an over flushed out to notched up a winning score of 267.

And when Shenley capitulated, Colin Wayman steadied the ship with an exquisite 112*, and batted almost 20 overs with Sidwell to frustrate Collingtree into submission, making the defeat a lot less painful.

14/09/2008 - CANCELLED GAMES GIVES DRAB END TO SEASON
The final 2 games of Shenley's season were cancelled, meaning a low key end to Shenley's 2008 season. The friendly at Milton Byran was postponed the day after our League success over them on 31st August, while a week before Caddington informed us they weren't able to raise a team. Subsequent attempts at getting a fixture were thwarted, therefore 2008 is no more!

30/08/2008 - SHENLEY CHURCH END PROMOTED TO DIVISION TWO
Shenley Church End CC - 212-3 (30 points) BEAT
Milton Bryan CC 1st XI - 209-7 (6 points) by 7 wickets

Shenley Church End were celebrating after gaining certain promotion to FCCL Division 2 after beating fellow contenders Milton Bryan by 7 wickets, thanks to Anton DeBeer's superb 130 not out and a workmanlike fielding performance.

Bryan inserted themselves from the toss - which pleased both sides, as if the visitor's had any chance of promotion a 30 point win must be gained. After a slow start, gaining less than 70 from the first 20 overs, Jay Fletcher (2-30 from 10) contrived with other bowlers to ensure Bryan's eventual total of 209 wasn't a much bigger one.

Shenley replied in a low key fashion, good tight bowling meant at drinks a score of 80-2 set up a tense finish. But DeBeer opened out and in just under 12 overs later, SCECC were celebrating their promotion to Division Two - possibly a year overdue. Amazingly, DeBeer would have been run-out in single figures if not for a horrendous error by the visitor's wicketkeeper when 3 yards short, and the very next ball dropped at slip following a cracking delivery!

Caddington's win at Whitchurch meant they finished as Division 3 champions and Shenley are second. 2009 promises to be an exciting season as Shenley step up to the mark against the likes of former Division 1 sides Olney and Milton Keynes, and Biddenham, Edlesborough, Studham, Soulbury, Stewkley and Aston Clinton.

09/08/2008 - BLANK WEEKEND AS WET WEATHER PUMMELS
Shenley's all home weekend was duly blanked out after a deluge of weekend rain made the Manor Fields pitch unplayable. SCECC's Division Three match with North Crawley 2nds and a return encounter against Biddenham fell foul to the weather, with many areas seeing puddles form and despite a nicely mown and flat pitch, it was simply too wet to play, even though Sunday was sunnier, both games were postponed on Saturday.

03/08/2008 - WET VICTORY FOR CUBLINGTON
Cublington CC (151-3) BEAT
Shenley Church End CC (149) by 7 wickets

Cublington braved the oncoming rain to complete a 7 wicket victory over SCECC in 25 overs, providing the Sunday side's 6th defeat of the campaign. After opting to bat first, Andy Peacock (30) and Stuart Burke (18) started well, but Jimmy Gardner's return from the USA dominated. An unsteady innings was ended on 13 thanks to a great C&B by Ben Sim.

Richard Fletcher's decent knock of 43, followed by Rob Hatcher (15) and Jay Fletcher (11) pulled the visiting team up to a respectable score, but easily enough for Cublington's stronger batsmen to chase.

Quick runs from Andrew Bull, Mike Chastney and Jamie Leggett provided the foundations to steer themselves to victory. Hatcher, Gardner and Dave Morley got the 3 Cublington wickets, though Ian Peacock's brilliant bowling on his return from Saudi Arabia was very notable.

02/08/2008 - 2ND SHENLEY LEAGUE GAME OFF
Shenley Church End's League game with North Crawley 2nds in FCCL Divison Three was postponed this weekend due to the wet weather experienced on Saturday morning. Ironically, the only other Saturday game cancelled in 2008 was actually against these opponents back in March. All other games in the League were also called off, hence no change in position. Shenley stay 4th.

27/07/2008 - LUCKY CANT STEER SIMMONS TO VICTORY
Shenley Church End CC (204-5) BEAT
William Simmons CC (203-7) by 5 wickets

Lucky Singh's 129 was not enough for Shenley to record their first Sunday home victory - at the fourth attempt - as yet another Anton DeBeer ton saw SCECC to the decent total set by the visitors.

Despite being dropped 3 times, opener Singh provided the bulk of the run scoring, as Graham Teagle, Jay Fletcher and Rob Hatcher all came close to removing the batsman - Kieran Burke eventually snaring his man.

In the reply, Tim Empson's quickfire 18 and Stuart Burke's 30 got the innings going inside the first 15 overs, while Anton DeBeer kept the run rate up, Andy Peacock (28) ably assisted him while the South African notched another timely hundred to maintain stand-in skipper Jay Fletcher's 100% record.

26/07/2008 - SHENLEY KEEP IN HUNT WITH DRAYTON VICTORY
Shenley Church End CC - 245-4 dec (30 points) BEAT
Drayton Parslow CC - 146 all out (4 points) by 99 runs

20/07/2008 - BIDDENHAM PROVE TOO STRONG FOR SCECC
Biddenham CC (109-3) BEAT
Shenley Church End CC (108) by 7 wickets

A weakened Shenley couldn't force a victory over the club's first friendly game versus Biddenham, ending up losing emphatically to the Bedfordshire side by 7 wickets. Being entered into bat by the hosts, openers Andy Peacock and Stuart Burke fended off strong opening bowlers. But as wickets fell, only Simon Sidwell and Graham Teagle offered resistence to draw out the innings towrads the final over, out for 108.

Biddenham's superb batting track only offered runs galore, and with just under 20 overs bowled the home side reached the total with relative ease. In three week times the two teams face again at Manor Fieids, promising to be a much more even contest.

19/07/2008 - TENSE DRAW FOUGHT OUT WITH EGGINGTON

Soulbury CC (109) LOST to
Shenley Church End CC (132) by 23 runs

29/06/2008 - COLLINGTREE GAME CALLED OFF
Shenley's scheduled Sunday match with Collingtree had to be called off when the visitors pulled off due to lack of numbers. With Simon Sidwell's side struggling for numbers also, it was a welcome weekend off, used to good effect to watch an epic Sunday of sport - Lewis Hamilton winning the British Grand Prix and Rafael Nadal beating Roger Federer in a epic Wimbledon final!

28/06/2008 - DEBEER STARTS WITH EPIC ALL ROUND SHOW
Milton Bryan CC 1st XI - BEAT
Shenley Church End CC - by 6 wickets

22/06/2008 - LAST BALL DEFEAT CONTINUES BAD HOME RECORD
Shenley Church End CC - 178-6 LOST to
Pitstone & Ivinghoe CC - 179-9

Shenley's home record on Sunday is still to reap a win following a gutting last ball defeat to Pitstone & Ivinghoe at Manor Fields. Posting a respectable total of 178 following a mid-innings slow down, half centuries from Andy Peacock and Anton DeBeer, and 38 from Stuart Burke steered Shenley to a defendable lead.

With a decent start to their fielding and bowling, SCECC looked the more likely victors. Though innings never go smoothly - Ivinghoe managed an excellent 5th wicket partnership which turned the tables to within sight of victory - 50 runs to win with 13 overs left.

DeBeer, Jay Fletcher and Simon Sidwell rallied the troops with tight bowling, the latter man breaking the partnership and gained 2 wickets in 2 balls. This aided the leaking of runs down to 3 off the final over. But Ivinghoe showed good resolve to win on the final ball of the innings, disappointing a mixed Shenley side who had clawed their way back into contention.

21/06/2008 - DEBEER STARTS WITH EPIC ALL ROUND SHOW
Eaton Bray CC 2nd XI - 81 (2 points) LOST to
Shenley Church End CC - 255-5 (30 points) by 174 runs

Anton DeBeer made this cricket match a one man show with one of the most outstanding all round performances Shenley Church End had ever seen, to register a 30 points win over bottom club Eaton Bray 2nds, and steady the club to 3rd in the FCCL Division Three table.

Batting first, others watch in awe as DeBeer notched 164no during the 44 over innings, (some of which he did not bat) including 22 fours and 5 sixes. Other ably assisted him during the stay, pushing SCECC to a certainly unobtainable target of 256 to win.

And despite coming on as second change bowler, DeBeer rampaged through the stumps of Bray's middle to bottom order with unbelievable figures of 6-5 from 10 overs (8 maidens!) finishing with the best figures so far in 2008. FCCL Div 3 Table...

19/06/2008 - MIDWEEK SUCCESS AS OVERSEAS ARE OVERCOME!

14/06/2008 - SHENLEY BACK ON TRACK WITH WINNING DRAW
Shenley Church End CC - 228-5 (20 points) DREW with
Caddington CC 1st XI - 148-8 (5 points)

Bouncing back to a good Saturday haul, Shenley hosted Caddington at the Manor for the first time since the two teams met in last season's penultimate game. This encounter ended a bit differently, within Shenley taking most of the spoils with a winning draw.

Anton DeBeer posted his first century of the campaign, taking 105, while opener Andy Peacock continued a fine season at the top of the order by notching a well earned 62. This helped enormously to a healthy 200+ score. Caddington had other ideas than getting all out, SCECC struggling to break them down until the finish, where a couple of wickets fell in the final balls to unsettle the visitors, but easily held out for a losing draw.

Shenely still have some way to go in clawing back points in order to level matters with Whitchurch, Milton Bryan and North Crawley 2nds, all currently ahead in the Division 3 League table.

07/06/2008 - WHITCHURCH CRUSH SCECC IN POOR SHOWING
Whitchurch CC - 85-3 (25 points) BEAT
Shenley Church End CC - 83 (1 points) by 7 wickets

Shenley Church End suffered their heaviest League defeat in some years as Whitchurch shellshocked the visitors thanks to a classy display of bowling to fully take the plaudits - leaving SCECC scratching their heads at what went wrong this thumping defeat.

K Siddique and S Hussian - admittedly on a difficult pitch and the rub of the green - ripped through Shenley's batting with 4 wicket each to leave them stranded on 83 from just over 30 overs, while it took Whitchurch less than 13 overs to complete the job with 3 wickets down, and gives Stuart Hardwick food for thought and Shenley languishing in mid table!

04/05/2008 - POOR SHENLEY SUFFERS MASSIVE BRAY DEFEAT
Eaton Bray proved that punishing poor bowling on a dodgy pitch was key to providing success by easily disposing of Shenley Church End by 154 runs. A rare weaker side meant Bray could capitalise with the bat, and a combination of poor shot selection and frustrating bowling kept the Manor Fields side in check in front of their new sightscreens!

03/05/2008 - NARROW TURVEY VICTORY PUTS SCECC UPWARDS
Turvey CC - 161 (6 points) LOST to
