24/04/2010 - Morrant Four Counties Cricket League

DIVISION 2:
Stewkley Vicarage CC 1st XI - 94 (2 points) LOST TO
Shenley Church End CC - 249-4dec (30 points) by 155 runs

The long awaited smell of a well oiled piece of English Willow was finaly upon us. The sun was bright, very little wind blowing and we were ready for the first game of the 2010 season.

On arrival we were met by a typical pre-season wicket that needed a bit of a trim before play could begin! Shenley started well and had a thorough warm-up which set them up for a day of dominance.

Batting first, Shenley took charge and got off to an excellent start. The Shenley boys were always in the driving seat playing strokes to all parts of the park and on many occassions cleared the ropes much to the locals disgust!

Only batting 39 overs of the alloted 44 overs, the captain gave us the call to retire on 249-4, this giving us the extra overs to bowl Stewkley out.

The dominance did not stop there, after a fantastic lunch the bowlers came to the party. The Shenley bowling attack had Stewkley scurrying for their pads as wickets fell at regular intervals. The fine bowling was backed up by a top fielding display as every chance was taken to send the opponents back thinking at 94 all out, giving us a full 30 points to take home.
