09/06/2007 - Four Counties League Division 3
Shenley Church End CC - 220-8 (20 points) DREW with
Drayton Parslow CC - 157-9 (8 points) Shenley came extremely close to recording another League win at Manor Fields, falling narrowly short where Drayton Parslow succeeded last season, and had to settle for top draw points instead to secure 3rd place in Division Three.
Drayton scored a dramatic last ball win in this fixture during 2006, both teams managing scores of over 200, whilst previous fixtures has been big victories go the way of the home side. This time though, Drayton clung on at the end to steer away a loss on a pitch which lent itself to batsmen and bowlers.
Shenley were put into bat after both captains took a close look at the wicket. The first 22 overs saw a conservative 82 scored, Homer Evans continuing good form with 34. Anton DeBeer had much more of a task - to get his first half century, and duly obliged.
He then raced on to record his first 100 for SCECC with a dominant innings, hitting seven sixes, helping the final total to 220-8 with useful contributions from others, securing maximum batting points. Jamie Yates took 3-45 for Drayton.
Immediately putting the pressure on, Jon Pennells and Jay Fletcher kept the scoring in the low 20's for the first 13 overs, and only a breakthrough sped up Drayton's innings. Unfortunately, Graham Teagle's 3-34 broke up the middle order sufficiently to halt the chase.
The visitors feel to 9 wickets down with 3 overs remaining and although the final wicket partnership could not be broken, Stuart Hardwick will be extremely happy in netting 20 points. Leapfrogging Parslow to 3rd in the League, and next week's opponents Milton Byran above 10 points above them, June's matches are vitally important.
