02/06/2007 - Four Counties League Division 3

Eaton Bray CC 2nd XI - 81 (3 points) LOST TO
Shenley Church End CC - 198-7 (30 points) by 118 runs
Shenley recorded their 3rd win of the season to take them nearer to the top of Division Three, and in spite of initially struggling to Eaton Bray's opening bowlers, SCECC's total and faster bowling attack proved the difference in another 30 point haul.

All Shenley's wins have come against weaker opposition, but the margain of victory was purely down to the visitor's consistent 5 bowlers at Bray's dry track - a wild comparison to Manor Fields, found under inches of water due to heavy rains the previous week.

Winning the toss, it could have perceived as a mistake to bat first on such a wicket, and this was reinforced when Church End were uncharacteristically reduced to 25-4. Andy Peacock went first edging behind when trying to remove his bat, before Colin Wayman went first ball nudging to short extra cover.

Anton DeBeer then misplayed a shot back to Eaton's opening bowler, and Homer Evans hooking to square leg to complete the early misery. But Nick Rogers and Stuart Burke managed to fire a huge 5th wicket partnership to put Shenley back on track.

They recovered well, and although Stuart Hardwick and Graham Teagle could not pursue the 200 mark, falling short on 198-7 from their 44 overs, the camp agreed it was a good total to defend.

Bray's early response was to gain a few runs on the board and gained a healthy start. Jay Fletcher and Jon Pennells stifled the batsmen, and when Richard Fletcher and Anton DeBeer came on, the extra pace forced batsmen errors. Bray crumbled to 81 all out, giving Shenley another truly convincing win.
