Collingtree CC - 175 (40 Overs) LOST to
Shenley Church End CC - 176-8 (38 Overs)

Two victories inside the opening weekend left Shenley Church End on a high, especially beating a tough Collingtree outfit sporting a number of top quality Saturday players, seeing the visitors edge a nailbiter in Northampton.

Played on an artifical wicket, the pitch and outfield offered a lot to bowler and batsmen and made for a highly entertaining game on another sultry day. Collingtree opened the batting and although a big score was expected, just over 100 runs were scored from 20 overs, opener Rhodes claiming 57 before being stumped by Stuart Hardwick from Chris Peacock's bowling.

Shenley began picking off the wickets and systematically slowing down the home team's scoring. Peacock gained more wickets and finished on 4-35 from 8 overs and along with skipper Richard Fletcher (3-32 from 7.2), Collingtree ended on 175.

SCECC got off top a decent start despite accurate bowling, Andy Peacock securing exactly a half century, but chopped on to his stumps next ball. With Fletcher's decision to mix up the middle order with a range of batting abilities, it took Stuart Hardwick's 32 to keep the middle order ticking over.

The hero of the day was indeed debutant Richard Anderson. Shenley needed more than 6 an over to get the required total due to the middle order slowdown, and the youngster hit three superb fours - including an audacious shot to hit bowler Stuart Brown back over his head.

Pairing with Simon Sidwell at the death, Anderson combined to knock off the final 20 runs in just 2 and a half overs to complete a brilliant victory. Both sides agreed they had witnessed a superbly fought game, and Shenley's start will spur them towards making this a good solid Sunday season.
